They have oodles of these unfinished frames at Michael's for $1 each. A few weeks ago, they were on sale for $0.66 each. Couple that with a few 40% off coupons and I had myself a project in the making. I grabbed the frames, found some cute scrapbook paper and Mod Podge and went to work.
I traced out the frame onto the back of the scrapbook paper and cut it out:
Then I Mod Podge'd the back of the paper and the front of the frame:
I stuck the paper onto the frame and rolled it out with an old rolling pin.
I waited precisely 15 minutes. During that time, I fielded several requests for juice and cheese crackers from my children. I live to serve.
After 15 minutes, I put a layer of Mod Podge over the paper:
I waited another 15 minutes, got more juice and this time grapes and blueberries were requested. I like when they change things up, it keeps things fresh. I put another coat on and let it dry. Once it was dry, I thought they looked great. The hubster did too, but since I can never leave well-enough alone, I had to add a little something extra. Here's the plain:
Cute, yes? I love that paper! I cut the rest of the paper into strips for the unnecessary-but-adorable additions.
I bent the paper into shapes; a flower or two, a heart, leaves for the flowers, and stems. I put them onto scotch tape to keep them in place:
And once I had the whole picture, I glued them to the top, with the tape still attached. It looked like this:
I contemplated leaving the tape on to give it a rustic feel, but my 6-year old said that would be lame. Six-year olds don't understand sarcasm.
Here's how they turned out:
Is that the funniest face ever? Love it.
Who's the hot chick with the abnormally-large forehead? It's me. Oh, yeah... fashion magazines keep calling to book me, but I don't want to get too famous to go to the grocery store. That's my version of reality.
If any of you haven't done a Mod Podge project, consider yourself lucky. I'm trying to find out what the biggest size bucket of Mod Podge is available on the market. MUST. MOD. PODGE. EVERYTHING.

That looks great! I love Mod Podge. My friend asked me the other day if it's possible to decoupage scrapbook paper to a boring bookcase. Um, YES! Can't wait to introduce her to the joys of Mod Podge and pop her decoupage cherry! ;)

ReplyDeleteHa! I loved reading this! I teach 2nd and 3rd grade and have been mod podging like crazy with them and have had so much fun, I am now obsessed! Everything I look at is mentally pictured with a layer of mod podge over it. You seem so mod modge experienced, I'll ask you what I googled to end up reading your blog... 1. Is there a way to mod podge pages in a book and keep them from sticking to each other? And there's no danger of kids getting high from inhaling mod podge fumes, right?? Thank you so much :)
