I was wrong.
I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and I saw a lady staring at the wreaths. I heard her muttering to herself about how expensive they were. And then, much to my horror, I saw her pick one out and put it in her cart, sighing as she went.
I died a little inside just then.
For those of you who are in homemade wreath denial or think it's just easier to buy one, I'm staging an intervention. Here's the simplest, cheapest wreath you can make. Once made, it can be personalized in a hundred different ways to fit your family.
Go to the dollar store and get the following:
1 wreath
4 bunches of your favorite faux fall leaves
1 spool of ribbon
Pull the leaves off the plastic stems.Start sticking the stems into the wreath any ol' way you like. Go all the way around the wreath until you're happy with it.
Hot glue the leaves to the wreath.
Viola. I like to say that word like "VI-OH-LAY" just like Scuttle in The Little Mermaid did.
Add some ribbon.
Did I mention this was simple?
From there, you can add picks, pumpkins, any little extras you like... and you won't pay $25.99 like that poor woman at Wal-Mart. I will never forgive myself for not rescuing her.

I love it! Yes, I prefer a homemade wreath to a store bought one because you can make it cheaper AND make it like you want!!! And I to a step further and remove the decorations on it and redo it for the next holiday or season. Way to go!! Jan
ReplyDeleteoh, you fancy, huh? so pretty!
ReplyDeleteGreat post about how simple it can be to make a wreath. I actually stood in Michaels one day admiring a Va Tech wreath, then walked back and forth picking up the stuff I needed to make the same wreath. Today at one of the bazaars we visited, a kind crafter explained how easy that new mesh ribbon is to use. I'm fascinated by it.
ReplyDeleteGo ahead and forgive yourself, think of how she was helping the economy. Anyway, love the wreath, and I probably have one in my 'craft closet'. Smiles, Hugs~Lori
