Make Your Own Fabric Bowl

I stumbled upon this project over at Geta's Quilting Studio.  She quilted herself a bowl... and since she offers the template for the shapes, I thought I would do something similar.

For my bowl though, I used plastic canvas, some fabric (fat squares, less than $1 each, awesomeness) and some embroidery floss.

I cut out the template shapes...

And then I used the templates to cut the shapes out of the canvas.

I trimmed them up a little smaller so the fabric would work... you'll see.  I cut out fabric to cover the canvas.

And then, I glued the fabric to the canvas.  In hindsight, I would have glued a bit more in the center, for a reason you'll see in a minute.

Once I glued one side, I glued the other, folding it over so it would look all pretty.  I held the second side of the fabric in place with paper clips.

Once that was done, I laid the pieces out to make sure they were all lined up. Doesn't it look like a pretty flower?

Once I knew the placement, I used the embroidery floss and stitched up the sides to the center.  This was the part that gave me trouble... because I glued at the ends, I had to sew through the hot glue.  If I had glued near the middle more, this part would have been a bit easier.  

I left the ends untied and threaded them through after I gave them a good tightening.

And then it was done.

Oh, and it's reversible!  Is that not awesome?  I didn't take a picture of it reversed because I'm a silly-face.  This whole project was less than $3!  What do you think?
