My Pin Corral, a.k.a A Magnet

I shared with all of you the recent joy my husband gave me in the form of a new sewing machine.  Love.  It's my latest addiction.  But something kept happening when I would sew up a project:

THIS IS DANGEROUS.  I COULD IMPALE MYSELF ON ONE OF THOSE PINS.  THE WORLD SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SUFFER THE WHINING I WOULD INFLICT UPON IT.

*deep breath*

I'm better now.  Mini-fit notwithstanding, I needed some sort of pin corral.  I have a pin cushion but it's in my sewing kit which is too bulky to keep on the table while I'm sewing.  I love all the little pin jars and cushions on Pinterest but they all seemed like something I would just knock off the table, inflicting pain upon myself, and we're right back to mega-fit.  So, I grabbed a little magnet and dressed it up with some acrylic paint:

Once it dried, I stuck it to my sewing machine dial.  Really.  That's the whole tutorial.  Don't believe me?

See that?  I didn't even need to glue it... it stuck using its own magnetic properties.  Or it could be magic.

So now, as I'm de-pinning, I put the pin on the magnet.  No injury, so simple, very handy... and the whining is saved for another day.

  1. What a great idea. I usually use my pin tin but like you say, it gets knocked off. I have some self adiesive magnets that I can use. I'm off to see where I can stick them. Thanks for the idea.
