What I've Learned Wednesday - Pinterest Gunk Tip

I test out a lot of tips on Pinterest.  Some of them work, and some of them don't... here's one that did! (sort of)

This pin talks about removing sticky glue residue from jars and bottles. In the past, I've found that a little rubbing alcohol and scraping will remove them pretty well, but this pin promises to remove them with no harsh-smelling ingredients.

See? It's a mayonnaise jar that has a bunch of gunky glue left on it after I took off the label.  I want to use this jar for something... Pinterest to the rescue!

The directions went something like this:  rub vegetable oil over the glue.  Rub it in nice and good... like it's a male model in Barbados and he's concerned about the amount of coconut oil on his back.

I've gotten off topic.

After you've rubbed the hot guy jar, let it sit for a few hours.  After that, wash it off with some hot soapy water.  I followed the directions and got this:

It worked pretty well... there is a strip of glue at the top that didn't come off.  I think that's because the oil ran down as it sat, so the very top didn't get it's fair share.  Still, it was super easy and was smelly chemical free! I'll definitely be using this trick in the future.

  2. Interesting. I've heard that peanut butter does the same thing but I am not a fan of how that smells. I'll have to remember the vegetable oil tip! Now, on to more important things, what will you be filling your empty mayo bottle with?
