What I've Learned Wednesday - Blog Awards

The blogging community is amazing.

A year ago, I was a totally new blogger.  I mean, I still had that 'new blogger' smell.  FYI, it smells like coconuts and chicken wings... not bad.

Some blogger somewhere decided to create blog awards.  And after you've been blogging for a little while you get noticed by a few people... and sometimes, one of those people will nominate you for one of these blogging awards.

Last week, I was nominated for two of them.  Which is a little bit of terrific.  I have sworn to myself that, no matter how big my blog gets, I will accept every blog award thrown my way.  I think I've accepted all that I've gotten before, but it's totally possible I've missed one or two.  I'll try harder in the future!

Here's how these awards work: You get nominated, you follow the rules, you pass the award along.  Easy-schmeasy.

The first award I got was the Sunshine Award!  I think this is because I'm so sunshiny all the time.  My husband seems doubtful that this was meant for me.  But really, when do I ever listen to him? :)

Here's the details:

The Sunshine Award is given by bloggers to bloggers.  The recipients of the Sunshine Award are "Bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere."

The way the award works is this:
Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them.
Answer 10 questions about yourself.
Select 10 of your favorite bloggers, link their blogs to your post and let them know they've been awarded the Sunshine Award!
Don't forget to copy and paste the award on your blog!

I was given this award by Jill over at Create.Craft.Love.  Please, go pay her a visit.  She seems like one of the sweetest people you could ever meet... and her blog is pretty as pretty gets.  Love her!  Thanks for the award Jill!

10 Questions:
Favorite Color?
There is a color that the sky gets right before it rains... a bluish-purplish.  It's been told to me that the color is periwinkle, but you'll get all sorts of shades if you google that color.  And really, who googles colors?  Just me, I suppose.
Favorite Animal?
Small dogs.  They try to be tougher than big dogs and that makes them adorable.

Favorite Number?
I'm a big fan of even numbers, but I also like prime numbers.  If I had to pick one number, it would be seven.  I am a numbers nerd.

Favorite Drink?
I love Sprite with Grenadine.  It's yums.

Facebook or Twitter?
I have mastered facebook but am Twitter-impaired.  I'll have to work on it.

Good Book or Good Movie?
I enjoy books, but I'm a total movie buff.  I try to watch a new-to-me movie at least twice a week.  I watched "The Crying Game" this week.  Yowsa.

My Passion?
Politics.  I really, really wish that I didn't care about politics because I get SOOOO wrapped up in it, but I'm extremely passionate about it.

Giving or Getting Presents?
I think I'm supposed to say 'giving'... and I do enjoy giving gifts.  But if I'm being honest? I loves me some presents.

Favorite Day?
Is this day of the week or day of the year?  I don't know that I have a favorite day of the week... but Christmas Eve is my favorite day of the year.

Favorite Flowers?
Lilacs.  They bloom for only a short time here and I love them.

Nominations:

You guys have awesome blogs and inspire me in a dozen ways.  Enjoy your award!

Next, we have The Versatile Blogger award.  I've gotten this one at least twice before.  Please everyone, don't be jealous of my amazing versatility. :)

Karen from quintonwench nominated me for this one.  She's a Brit... so everytime I get a comment from her, I say it out loud in a British accent.  I'm starting to sound a lot like Simon Cowell, which is unfortunate.

Thanks for the award, Karen!

7 random things about me:

1.  I have an irrational fear of getting head lice.  It's pervasive and strange, but I worry about it SO MUCH.
2.  My favorite flavor is coconut but I hate to eat it.  It's a texture issue, if I'm being honest.
3.  I don't care for the word 'dollop'.
4.  Both of my parents are deaf.  I'm fluent in sign language but I stutter when I sign.  It's like a speech stutter, but with your hands.  It's hard to describe but it's a real thing.
5.  One of the things I dislike most in life is when men wear sandals.  If I ran this country, mens feet would have to be covered at all times.  It would be a federal law.
6.  I'm a sucker for singer-songwriters.  I don't care about the age difference, if James Taylor ever asked me to marry him, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
7.  I didn't see any of the Star Wars movies until I was well into my twenties.  Most of it still doesn't make sense to me.

Are any of you still awake?  I never claimed to be an interesting person, that's for sure.

And here are my 15 blog nominations:

Bryallen at The Frugal Graduate
The amazing blogger over at love2dream
Lauren at The Well Crafted Home

Meredith at Haute To Sew
Pamela at Sew Much Class & Crafty, Too

  3. Congratulations!! And thanks for passing along the award to me. :-)
I loved reading your answers. It is hard to imagine you stuttering in sign, but if you say so...
About James Taylor. I totally know what you mean. I love his work, heard his voice in my head as soon as I read his name, but you better watch out. I think he may have fried his brain in the '60s. lol

...and now I will be hearing James Taylor singing for the rest of the day. Not a bad thing. :-)

  4. Look at you. Two awards, don't go getting a big head :). I loved reading your answers. I also am beginning to think you are trapped in some 80s time warp, you love The Golden Girls and now you just watched The Crying Game. You make me laugh. AND, I should hope you like giving...you have 10 crafts to make readers. Shouldn't you be working in your giveaway sweatshop instead of accepting awards :). Finally, thanks for bestowing an award upon me. You, my dear, gave me my very first award and made me feel like I was truly part of the blogging community. Thank you for that award and now for this award.

  5. Wow, I'm so honored! Thank you! I consider myself a spectator in the blog world and being mentioned on your blog is like being asked to come on stage with the star. BTW, I am totally with you on men in sandals. Especially those strange Adidas shower sandals worn everywhere but between the shower and the pool. I have never met a man who did not have ugly toes.

  6. Aah, congrats! You definitely deserve both awards! And thanks for nominating me for the sunshine award! My husband also snickered a bit when he heard that, but hey, I think I could positively inspire some people! Probably... :-)

  7. Thanks for the nomination!! :) I agree with you about Star Wars. I watched the original one in uni last year. It was built up so far and I expected so much but received so little!! (Except Harrison Ford.. of course!)

Congrats on both awards! Mmm, love that new blogger smell! :D

I love all the comments I get from you! Because of an insane amount of spam, I had to turn off anonymous commenting but I'd love it if you'd comment anyway!
