Either way, take off your shoes and keep me company on this Wednesday morning.
So, you probably have a blog. And your blog probably has a 'topic' of sorts. In case you didn't know, my blog topic is how to be awesome mixed with some DIY and crafting. Mostly just being awesome though.
But on Mondays, I blog about zombie-preparedness. CAN YOU BELIEVE PEOPLE LIKE THAT? I mean, you read a crafting blog to find crafts, not zombies... but people love those posts. My point? Post outside your topic.
If any of you were here last winter, you might remember that I participated in this writing thing where you finish a novel in the month of November. 'Cause that's what I really want to be, is a writer. And from what my high school guidance counselor told me, you get better at something when you do it often. So, I write. I write about zombies in the hopes that my writing will get better. And while I'm practicing my writing, I'm educating people about how to survive the zombie-pocalypse, and they're grateful for it.
Do you ever post off your topic?

Do you watch Walking Dead? We love that show.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!! Awesome show :)
DeleteI love your blog no matter what you post about. I just completely appreciate your sense of humor and I love how it comes out in your writing!
ReplyDeleteI started blogging to flex my writing muscles also. For the first couple years, I really didn't know what the heck to write about, much less have a topic. Recently I started three ongoing series, and that has really helped me to 1. post regularly and 2. organize my thoughts. My traffic is slowly (glacially) picking up.
ReplyDeleteNow I have at least two new posts per week about craft and random life stuff. And occasional one-off posts about...anything, really.
I love your zombie posts, and your crafty posts, and your blogging posts!
:)
MCM
Well, now I understand all about the zombies!
ReplyDeleteI post off topic all the time - while I do blog about DIY and crafting I also like to write and share my sometimes random thoughts...can't help it - gotta be me! I really enjoy your blog so keep on posting whatever moves you and we'll all keep reading!
ReplyDeletePeggy
YOU MY DEAR ARE SUCH A FAVORITE YOU POST WHATEVER YOU LIKE AND I WILL READ IT, YEAH I LIKE YOU THAT MUCH I ALSO WANTED YOU TO HAVE AN AWARD SO GO OVER TO MY BLOG AND PICK IT UP IT IS PRETTY COOL AND SO ARE YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea. I am VERY new to blogging, and am trying desperately to drive some traffic to my blog so I can get some advertising going. How do you have time to link up to so many parties? It seems the more successful blogs link up to a lot of parties. It takes me like 20 minutes for each new one, since I update the post to list the link, add them to my parties page, and add them to my sidebar. Maybe I am doing too much, but I want to be sure to give them fair credit and make a fun parties page.
ReplyDeleteAll I do is post off topic :) My poor blog has multiple personality disorder and it suits me :)
ReplyDeleteI want to be first in line to get your novel. I'll insist, though, that it be a signed copy :)
When I used to maintain the Make Three blog, I would post off topic at times. I say your blog, your rules. ;)
ReplyDeleteI stopped blogging awhile ago. My husband and I were going through a really rough patch which caused me to neglect my blog. Then to make matters worse, I had a group of friends, whom I thought were my real friends, turned their backs on me when I didn't listen to their conspiracy theories about my husband. They started cyberstalking my blog and making up stuff about it. I got accused of making fun of one of them because they believe in a strict schedule for their child when I didn't (and posted "this is what works for my child but every family and every child are different"), that I had resentment for stay at home Moms, etc. You were kind enough to try to help me with "Project Mom Respect" to help reduce the assumptions that working moms making about SAHMs and vice versa so you know that wasn't true. I was already dealing with a lot at home, I didn't have the time or energy to deal with cyber stalking, false allegations so I deleted the blog. I'm hoping to start blogging again in the near future (Organizing Dolo).
And I went off topic on your off topic post (so does that make my comment technically on topic?).
