There's nothing like a new year to get you motivated about finances. I run the whole budget show in this house, so I need to make sure it runs exactly like I need it to. I've been using a binder for my budget for a billion years but it was this plain black one... I ran out to Target, dodged the security team, and bought a pretty one.
I may or may not have kissed it a few times. But I definitely did. Open it up and you'll see a pocket to hold scissors, ONE PEN (because I can fill up this pocket with a thousand pens that I don't need), and a flash drive that holds all the budget worksheets I use. On the back of this pouch, there are pockets that I use to hold the bills that are ready to be mailed.
I made a simple little worksheet for me to lay out what needs to be paid on a weekly basis. There's a place for the date, income, what should be paid and even a little checkbox when it's done. This is so simple but works so well for me.
There are monthly tabs which include a 6"x9" envelope that I added pretty paper to and labeled to hold the monthly receipts.
And of course, I have a sheet for the monthly budget. If you could see the inside of my heart, it would look like a spreadsheet. For reals.
In that same pocket, when you turn the page, I keep all the bills that come in. This way, they don't accumulate on the kitchen table. Nothing is worse for digestion than looking at a stack of bills.
There's a tab for mailing supplies... I have a sheet protector that holds all the envelopes, stamps and labels...
And at the back, I have sheets of check registers as well as my checkbook clipped there. I never use my checkbook out of the house... ever. So it stays in my binder and it feels at home. At least, it's never complained. **Here's the link to the check register pdf!

Oh, I love organization! I hope some of it rubs off on me.
ReplyDeleteWOW. You are REALLY organized. I am impressed.
ReplyDeleteI just have one massive spreadsheet with lots of different tabs at the bottom! Like the folder though! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Priscilla,
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling much better. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I didn't forget about you. It's been so hectic here with the holidays, and we all had colds. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Hugs,
Debbie
That is some serious organization! I am impressed. Oh, and I love binders, too. At my old job, they called me Binder Girl. I think it was meant as a compliment.
ReplyDeleteI love binders. I would put everything I own in binders if I could get away with it. :)
DeleteI have the same obsession...only with pens. My husband wants to throw them all away but I am on a quest to find the perfect pen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow, you're a girl after my own heart and I'm returning the favor!
ReplyDeleteWhat's a budget???
ReplyDeleteWe used a customized style of Dave Ramsey's envelopes. How we customize, we use just one cash one per week. Works for the most part!
I love the Dave Ramsey babysteps! We sort of use them except we don't have much debt so we didn't have to do that step. His plan is great for focusing on how you spend!
DeleteYou're so organized, good job! I do most of our finances etc. on a computer, but I have a folder on my hard drive for my budget stuff, which I guess is kinda the same thing? :-)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I featured this on my blog today! You can check it out here and grab a Featured button if you want: http://practicallyfunctional.net/2013/01/the-fun-in-functional-link-party-33/
DeleteI love new binders almost as much as I love filling out blank spreadsheets... sigh, love! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Found you from Blissfully Domestic. I would really like it if you could make the check register a printable for me. I'm going to be teaching some teenagers about money and spending and budgeting and your check register would be so helpful compared to the ones from the bank. Andrea in WA
ReplyDeleteI've added the link above, but here it is for you!

Thanks for the link!! Andrea in WA.
ReplyDeleteYou and I share the same love for the office supply section on Target, or pretty much any store. Great binder suggestions!! Thanks for linking up with us this week @ Keep Calm & Link Up!

Great binder!! TFS!! Stopping by from diy home sweet home linky party.
ReplyDeleteHere is what I shared this week: http://craftybrooklynarmywife.blogspot.ca/2013/01/fun-fur-boa-scarf.html
So organized and cute! I do all of my finances electronically these days. I hear you about the checkbook never leaving the house. I think I tear out checks during the summer to pay for summer/day camp, but besides that, it is really, really rare that I ever write a check. Online bill pay takes care of me!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I need to come up with a budget for us so badly. It's really difficult when neither of us have steady jobs and our pay is really sporadic! Hopefully I'll be able to do something, though! Thanks so much for linking up to the Craft Yourself Crazy link party!

Yeah I could have written this post. Except I would have never gotten to the budget part. Or the part tiffin out that I blew my budget on binders... Don't laugh it can happen
ReplyDeleteFabulous budget binder organization! And I love the pretty colors and special touches you added. :)

Love your ideas .... And your sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteI live your ideas ..... and your sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteI love this! Your blog was the only one I found with a weekly sheet. My husband and I like so many others live pay check to pay check, and depend on knowing what goes out each week. I loved the idea, and made one of my own, similar but more accurate towards our needs. Thank you for sharing!!
