Anyhoo, onto today's craft. When you are a crafty type of gal, you collect craft supplies... the one I was swimming in most was acrylic paint. Really, there were bottles of it EVERYWHERE. Ridiculous, for sure. And I searched for the perfect storage solution for those little bottles and every time I would find one, it was either discontinued, or apparently a figment of Pinterest's imagination. So disappointing. And what's a crafty gal to do, but make her own storage solution?

I made it with my own two hands. And my husbands hands.
I bought some PVC pipe, big enough to fit my favorite brand of acrylic paint. Then I measured the pipe to three inches, just long enough to hold the paint bottle itself, not the cap.
After I made little marks, I used a piece of paper to make a straight line around the pipe.
I then had the hubbers use a PVC cutter to give me a whole bunch of pipe pieces.
Look at those big, strong, manly hands. He's all man and all mine.
Once I had enough to work with, I started gluing the pieces together. I had a space in mind for the paint, so I was able to make my holder to the exact size I needed.
I glued them together in groups of five, and then I glued the groups together.
I painted the whole thing and then while it was drying, I used my Silhouette to cut some round stickers out of full-page address labels. I painted the circles to put on the bottle tops. Some acrylic paints already have the colors on the tops, so you might not have to do this part.
And then, it was done. And I just love it. And it was really cheap to make, too... two lengths of pipe at $3 a piece gave me enough to store my paint.
It's my own little rainbow of happiness.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I used a glue called 'Loctite Clear Power Grab Instant Grab All Purpose Interior Construction Adhesive". I swear, that's the title on the bottle. It worked really well and I let all the pieces dry individually for at least a day before stacking them all up. E6000 would probably work too, but the store was out of stock of it that day.
DeleteYours looks great! I recently did this same thing, only mind crumbled down 10 minutes after I was finished. Mine was pretty large, and I used different sizes, so the weight was very different. I used mine as the side of a craft desk we made. I recently bought pvc cement, but I haven't been able to find the time. What did you used to hold them together?

ReplyDeleteHi there! I actually used latex interior paint for the pvc. I had a coupon for a free sample so the paint didn't cost me a thing. If you don't have a coupon though, samples of paint at Lowe's are under $3! Let me know how it goes!

ReplyDeleteSooooo happy that I found this! As soon as I saw the pvc tubes I remembered that I had picked up a bunch of thick cardboard tubes from a local recycling place around here. I went OH! Now I know what to use all those tubes for! So excited. We have this place called "The Scrapbox" and it has all sorts of recycling manufacturing materials that get used for crafts from weird foam cut outs to cardboard tubes to any bottle cap you can imagine. So happy that you gave me a use for the bag of tubes I picked up! Awesome. Just awesome!

ReplyDeleteI don't know if this question is for the paint storage thing I made (with wire shelving and thread spools), or the PVC agility equipment I made? The agility stuff is made with 5/8 inch diameter (the diameter is measured from the INSIDE of the pipe). Before you invest in the PVC, make sure you can get the "connectors" in the correct size. Ebay is a good place for those, reasonably.
ReplyDeleteAs you can see, I'm forced to make almost all of my materials for my many interests. Being a single lady for sooooooo long had it's benefits. Is it any wonder that my studio NEVER is finished now that I'm married and I have NO time?
